Tutorial: Vellum & Alcohol Inks

Hello there - we have Virginia Lu today giving us an awesome tutorial on Vellum & Alcohol Inks. I invited her back to play along with our current Challenge #21.

Remember her stellar Birthday Party Favor here? We all wanted to see a tutorial, and Virginia has obliged. Here is what she had to say:

~ Gather supplies-clear/white vellum paper, Tim Holtz Adirondack Alcohol Blending Solution, Adirondack Alcohol Inks ( Pink Sherbet, Sunshine Yellow)
~ Use Alcohol Applicator with felt. Here I used regular brown felt for the alcohol inks as it works . AND it saves money!
~ You can control the color intensity by adding more/less inks and alcohol solution. Experimenting with the alcohol inks is part of the fun!

~You can either dab or swipe the inks to create textured look that you want.
~ After it dries, you can stamp or emboss
~I cut out the embossed images and tried out the designs

~ Make book marks with the fun sentiment
~ See how I used the die cut for creating edges (see top left)? You can make good use of your existing die cut.
~Color part of the sentiment
~Use Liquid Pearl Accents to add details on the muffin tops

~Add Stickles for the extra sparkle

With the extra cupcake images, I made a card. With  Washi tape, buttons and sequins, this card was quick to put together!

Thanks for having me as the guest designer today! It is such a pleasure to share my work with you at Little Tangles!

Remember we have a few challenges open: CASE the Birthday Bash, and Challenge #21. Hope to see you entering!

Challenge #21 - Color Challenge

Hi friends - Amy has been a trooper holding the fort down here as I was travelling and then had a horrible tumble. So I'm slowly trying to get back into the swing of things but haven't fully recovered my concussed head. So no card for me but we have an exceptional set of cards to get you going and a super star as our guest designer.

By the way, don't forget our CASE the Birthday Bash challenge!

I thought it would be fun do a color challenge, keep it interesting, right? Grey, Yellow & Pink. Yep - it's that strange color the skies have been turning in my parts of the earth and the days are getting shorter. Yikes.

Anyways, I'm going to let our amazing Guest Designer Paulina Nakamura kick things off. You might have seen her amazing Little Tangles shaker cards on the main blog.

Card Drive For Grayson Reopened - Please Send More Cards!

I'm reposting this blog post from Danielle's Neat & Tangled site here. Consider donating your challenge cards, past & present, to this little man...

Hello friends. It is with much sadness that I am writing this post. You may recall back in January I started a card drive for a sweet little boy, Grayson.  He had been diagnosed with brain cancer and I had hoped to bring him some smiles with your cards.  The drive was a success! Grayson and his brother, Aydan, LOVED your cards! They received over 200! His mom, Jackie, wrote a little about the joy it brought them in her own blog post HERE

Grayson

Since then Grayson has undergone chemotherapy and had relative success in that his very aggressive tumor has not grown, but it also has not shrunk. This is hopeful news though because the chemo was at least making the tumor "behave".

This weekend Grayson was involved in an accident at home which has left his foot severely injured. They are unsure if it will need to be amputated or not, and the entire situation is further complicated because of his cancer.  His chemo has to be put on hold until they can decide what to do about his foot. Until then he is staying in the hospital. You can read it in Jackie's words HERE.

It seems so unfair that a small child must be put through so much. And I cannot begin to imagine how his family feels. I know that my own heart aches. I think when you become a mom you hurt for all children suffering, not just your own.

I am restarting the card drive for Grayson.  As before you can send cards to Grayson, his big brother Aydan, and/or the entire family.  Please NO "Get Well" cards,  just funny, happy, cute encouraging cards to bring a smile to their faces.

Mail cards to:

Grayson Savery (and/or Aydan Savery, and/or The Savery Family)

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and PLEASE share with all your crafting friends!

Challenge #20 Tutorial: little tangles + chalkboard = ♥♥♥

Hello out there!

It's Amy, reminding you about little tangles, challenge 20:

I love this chalkboard trend!

It's everywhere:

It has definitely hit the paper crafting industry by storm and has managed to stay strong.

There are tons of tuts available on the chalkboard technique which include heat embossing and then going back and re-stamping your images to create a shadow effect.

I was going to show you that technique, which I would call the original version, but when I dug around for my white embossing powder, I couldn't find it.  I'm in the midst of packing up all my crafting supplies from one space to another and let's just say, it's scary.

So, for those of you that follow my blog, you know that I typically fall back on the quick & easy version!

All you need: your favorite neat & tangled stamps and a good white ink pad:

I stamped the A Lot To Say with the white ink and fussy cut it out.  Then I used Party Dots, the strip border dots along with the solid dots and randomly stamped.  I stamped the banner and sentiment, and fussy cut it out.

Tip:  use a dry baby wipe to smear white ink on your pieces.

I like the contrast of the solid black panel against the chalkboard pieces to really make them POP.   Lately, the messier the better for me!

Earlier this year, I was a guestie on the Neat & Tangled blog.  Here's a card that I created using the same technique:

It's quite a bit 'neater' than what I've been currently doing.  I even took the time to do the white lines with a colored pencil!

This one posted last week for the current challenge:

So there you go...I can't wait to see how you're inspired by

Challenge #20 - Back to the Blackboard

Hi friends - we're back to our scheduled program. We do have a few challenges still running to wrap up our Birthday Bash. So please come play along.

Since we're back to school we thought we'd bring a very trendy technique to this challenge: Back to the Blackboard. We are having a fabulous designer who also helped us during our Birthday Bash.

It's no other than Piali Biswas. I love how she made a colorful blackboard out of the dream stamp.
